Water Use Advisory

Trumbull County Health Department
Division of Environmental Health
Because serious illness can occur as a result of the recent flooding, TCHD strongly recommends properly chlorinating your well and having a bacterial test done.
If your water supply is from a private well, cistern, pond, or hauled storage tank and NOT from a municipal water source AND if your property was under water during a flood event your water MUST NOT be used for the following uses:
  • Drinking
  • Washing Dishes
  • Brushing Teeth
  • Washing and Preparing Food
  • Cooking
  • Making Ice
  • Showering
Until testing is done use Bottled water or Boiled tap water (boil for 20 minutes & cool before use).
Directions for properly disinfecting your water supply can be obtained at Well Disinfection on the TCHD website or from your local township officials.
To arrange for water testing by an ODH & OEPA approved laboratory after properly disinfecting your well, you can contact the TCHD at (330) 675-2489 or Tri-State Laboratories Inc. at (330) 797- 8844. A fee is applied for all water testing.
If you decide NOT to have your well tested, please be advised that serious illness could occur primarily in the gastrointestinal system with symptoms that may include cramps, nausea, diarrhea, etc. Especially affected are the young, elderly & those that are immuno-compromised.
Steps that should be taken:
  • Chlorinate well
  • Flush completely
  • Wait 48 hours before testing
